About The Journey Prize Anthology 13
Now in its thirteenth year, the $10,000 Journey Prize is awarded
annually to a new and developing writer of distinction. The winner of
this year's Journey Prize will be selected from among the stories
included in the thirteenth volume of The Journey Prize Anthology, which
will be available in stores in October. The winner will be announced in
Toronto in the spring of 2002.
This year's three-person jury comprises Elyse Gasco, Michael Helm, and
Michael Nicholson.
Elyse Gasco was the winner of the 1996 Journey Prize for the title
story from her first book of short fiction, Can You Wave Bye Bye,
Baby?(1999). The collection won the QSPELL Hugh MacLennan Prize for
Fiction and the QSPELL/FEWQ First Book Award, and was a finalist for the
Danuta Gleed Literary Award, the Governor General's Award, and the
Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. It was also a New York Times Book
Review Notable Book. She lives in Montreal.
Michael Helm is the author of The Projectionist (1997), which was a
finalist for The Giller Prize and the Trillium Award. Helm is a regular
contributor to Brick Magazine and various other Canadian and U.S.
publications. He was also a co-editor at the literary journal Descant
for a number of years. He lives in Toronto.
Michael Nicholson is a category manager at Chapters Inc.
