Among the stories this year: A full-grown man must navigate his way through schoolyard politics when he wakes up one morning to find himself back in grade four. Having an eccentric family of her own does not prepare a young hotel housekeeper for what she finds when she walks into Room 317. In a savvy political satire set in the Alberta Badlands, a small community is up in arms after someone shoots up their town. A woman meditates on motherhood and the lonely mysteries of her teenage son’s life as she tenderly washes the surprisingly delicate heavy metal T-shirts worn by her only child. After a smug, married man readies his inept younger brother for a blind date, the cracks in his own life begin to surface. Three sisters try to reconstruct what they were up to the day a murder was discovered in their neighbourhood.
