The entrant must include his or her name, email address, return mailing address, and the correct answer to the final clue. Limit 1 entry per person or per e-mail. If it is discovered that you attempted to enter more than once, all your entries will be void. HOW TO PLAY AND SOLVE THE QUEST: The Thames has frozen over forty times. A narrative snapshot from each of those events is captured in Helen Humphreys' work "the Frozen Thames". On many occasions, the ice on the Thames gave birth to frost fairs, ad hoc gatherings of merchants, food vendors, gamblers and all manner of trade and cold commerce. The Quest for the Ice Fox is a geographical mystery that requires its players to use their language, math and geographic gifts to discover the place in London, England, where a frightened fox, set loose for a hunt on the ice, is confused between the white world of the Thames and the snowy streets of London, and disappears into the city itself, appearing seven times and finally going to ground at its final, prize-winning destination. Each week during the Contest Period (at approximately 5:00 am EST on Mondays) registrants will receive a clue that they need to solve to move on to the next clue. The contest will feature a total of eight weekly clues, issued one per week over the Contest Period. Each clue has three parts, which are:
SUMMARY OF WEEKLY CLUES We begin with a starting point on the frozen Thames. We provide an offset requiring knowledge of when the Thames froze. The offset location provides a key to the clue's cipher. The cipher, solved, reveals one number of eight. All eight numbers create the final latitude and longitude of the fox's finally resting place. And, you can't solve a clue's cipher without the key, which comes from the offset, which comes from being able to answer the question about the Frozen Thames. The first registrant who correctly identifies the correct latitude and longitude of the fox's final resting place and e-mails their answer to the Contest Sponsor will be the Grand Prize winner and the next five registrants who correctly identify the answer will be the Runner's Up. The decision of the contest judges will be final. Maximum one prize per person. ELIGIBILITY: This contest is open to all residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entry except employees (and those with whom such employees are domiciled) or agents of McClelland Stewart ("Sponsor"), its advertising and promotion agencies, w8nc inc. and the contest judges.
